The Chaminade Julienne football team lost a chance for a home playoff game with a Week 10 rivalry loss to Alter.

But the Eagles made themselves at home at Williamsport Westfall just fine.

CJ won its first playoff game since 2005 on Saturday with a 63-13 victory against Westfall in a Division IV, Region 16 quartefinal. Shaking off the regular season-ending defeat, CJ collected scores from a punt return, interception return and offensive plays of 18, 25, 13, 78, 68, 72 and 1 yards.

CJ’s big-play offense was so effective that the Eagles ran just 28 plays in the game (Westfall ran 79). Seeded No. 5, CJ (8-3) set up a regional semifinal game against top-seeded and undefeated Waynesville at 7 p.m. Saturday at Centerville High School.

“We played with maybe a little too much emotion (against Alter) and didn’t play as well as we wanted,” said first-year CJ coach Marcus Colvin. “But this team, they just persevere. They weren’t negative.”

CJ is one of 10 area teams remaining in the football playoffs, which will continue with regional semifinals Friday and Saturday at neutral sites.
