Overtime goal gives Alter the title over Bellbrook

Tim McCarthy scored the winning goal in overtime as Alter defeated Bellbrook 2-1 in the boys Division II sectional soccer final Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Bellbrook jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but Connor Critten scored off an assist from Tim Rieser to tie the game. McCarthy scored with 12:48 to play in the first overtime off another assist from Rieser.

Alter improves to 10-1-7 and advances to play Bellefontaine on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Franklin High School. Bellbrook ends at 14-2-2.

Carroll 4, Oakwood 0: Justin Mitchell’s two assists helped the Patriots defeat the Lumberjacks in this D-II sectional final. Carroll keeper Steve Foreman had four saves in the shutout. Carroll improves to 15-1-1 and will play Batavia on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Franklin. Oakwood ends at 12-6-1.

Fairmont 5, Springboro 2: Austen Starr scored twice for the Firebirds and Nathan Bias, Adam Conlon and Taiyo Rabenstein added a goal and an assist each in this D-I sectional final. Fairmont improves to 14-5-0 and advances to play Wayne at Lakota West on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Centerville 1, Sidney 0: Mitch Carnes scored the only goal of this D-I sectional final 25 minutes into the second half. The Elks outshot the Yellow Jackets 16-2. Centerville improves to 11-0-6 and advances to play Mason on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Lakota West. Sidney ends at 11-5-2.

Beavercreek 4, Northmont 1: Andrew Granato scored twice for Creek, and the T-Bolts’ only score was an own goal in this D-I sectional final. Beavercreek improves to 12-2-4 and will play Fairfield on Saturday at Northmont at 7:30 p.m. Northmont ends at 10-3-3.

Bethel 3, Lehman Catholic 2: The Cavaliers built a 2-0 lead, but the Bees rallied thanks to Joey Brown’s dominance in this D-III sectional final. Brown scored all three goals for Bethel, which has a nine-game unbeaten streak. Bethel improves to 14-1-2 and advances to play Reading on Saturday at Springboro at 3:30 p.m.
