Overview: Scoreless through two quarters, Brookville looked nothing like the offensive juggernaut it had been through the first four weeks of the season. All that changed in the second half as the Blue Devils (4-1) exploded out of the break for 21 points in just over six minutes en route to a 28-20 victory at Dixie (2-3). Senior running back Corbin Caudill was the main reason for the Brookville turnaround as he gained 104 yards on 14 carries and scored three touchdowns in the third quarter alone.
Turning point: Clinging to a 14-13 lead after two quick Brookville touchdowns, Dixie needed a good drive to gain some composure, but its offense never got a chance. That’s because Greyhounds junior Ryan Jordan couldn’t field the kickoff after it squibbed across the muddy ground. He tried to pick it up, but it bounced off his hands and was recovered by Brookville at the Dixie 25. Two plays later, the Blue Devils took the lead for good.
Stat pack: Caudill finished with 158 yards on 28 carries and four touchdowns — a career high for the senior. ... Jordan was a force for the Greyhounds in the first half, carrying 15 times for 76 yards and a touchdown.
Quote: “(Caudill’s) been one of the main go-to guys in the offense for the past two years. He and the linemen put the team on their back during the second half.” — Brookville coach Mike Hetrick
