NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Former Chaminade Julienne High School and Michigan State tailback Javon Ringer has agreed to undisclosed terms with the Tennessee Titans, the team’s Web site reported Tuesday, July 21.
The Titans selected Ringer in the fifth round (173rd overall) of the recent NFL draft after he played in 45 career games with 26 starts for the Spartans. He finished his college career as the school’s second all-time leading rusher and the Big Ten Conference’s 10th all-time leading rusher with 4,398 yards.
With an additional 719 receiving yards and 309 kickoff return yards, Ringer became the school’s career leader with 5,426 career all-purpose yards. As a senior in 2008, he earned first-team Associated Press All-America honors after ranking sixth in school history in rushing yards (1,447), second in carries (390), first in touchdowns (22) and third in all-purpose yards (2,051).
Although Ringer is only 5-foot-9 and just over 200 pounds, he was considered a durable back in college.
In high school, Ringer rushed for 6,184 yards and 81 touchdowns in three seasons. He missed the final six games of his senior season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, which hindered his recruitment by Ohio State. He also ran track in high school.
The Titans have now agreed to terms with nine of their 11 draft choices. The team opens training camp July 31.
