The record books for Canton McKinley’s high school boys basketball team is loaded with impressive numbers:

• 1,779 career victories, tops among Ohio programs

• 102 winnings seasons (to go with just nine losing seasons)

• Three state championships

The Dunbar Wolverines nailed down a spot in McKinley’s record books Wednesday night, too, putting 92 points on McKinley, the most by any opponent in program history.

Dunbar won 92-58 to give the Wolverines a 3-1 record overall against McKinley.

According to the Canton Repository, McKinley allowed 90 points in a loss to Hoover two seasons ago and 91 in a win against Mentor during the 1997-98 season.

Dunbar led 18-14 after the first quarter. McKinley pulled to 24-23 in the second, but Dunbar unleashed a 17-0 run for the 41-23 halftime lead. McKinley got as close as 22 points in the second half.

Deontae Hawkins scored 16 points, A.J. Harris had 15, Andre Yates 13, Gary Akbar 12 and Tayvonne Hunt 10 as 11 different players scored for the Wolverines (7-0).

Points battle in MBC: There’s a pretty good points battle brewing in the Metro Buckeye Conference girls basketball.

Dayton Christian and Xenia Christian — separated by one game in the MBC standings — boast the league’s top two scorers. DC senior Lisa Weber averages 25.4 points through nine games and XC junior Michaela Nelson averages 24.0 through seven games.

Perhaps more impressive than Weber’s points is how she’s doing it. The 5-foot-10 guard is shooting 70 percent from the field (63 of 90), 47.6 percent from 3-point range (20 of 42) and 77.5 percent from the free-throw line (83 of 107).

She opened the season with 46 points in a 69-39 win against West Carrollton and had 21 of her team’s points in a 67-30 loss to Carroll.

In a head-to-head matchup, Weber scored 39 in a 79-47 win against Xenia Christian on Dec. 12.

Nelson, who leads the league in rebounds with 14.9, scored 18 and added 16 rebounds against DC. The 5-8 guard has double-doubles in six of seven games.

Layups: Anna’s girls have won 31 straight games dating back to last season’s Division III state championship. The Rockets are 8-0 this season. ... The Beavercreek boys’ 5-1 start gets tested Tuesday. The Beavers, winners of five straight, play at Dunbar. ... Six of Centerville’s girls next seven opponents sport winning records, including the next two games against Alter (6-1) tonight and Fairmont (6-1) on Wednesday.
