Overview: The last time Fairborn had beaten Springboro, Fairmont quarterback Kendrick Williams was in second grade. On Friday night, the Skyhawks put an end to that drought, overcoming penalties and a pesky Panthers team to pull off a 29-27 victory at Springboro. Fairborn scored the decisive touchdown on a 1-yard run by Devon Hamilton, winning its fourth straight game after a 1-2 start as a late Springboro field-goal try sailed wide left.

Turning Point: With the score tied at 7, Williams shuffled around and bought himself time and found Billy Jackson for a 16-yard gain on 4th and 14 from the Boro 25-yard line. Two plays later, he connected with Jackson for a 5-yard TD for the Skyhawks (5-2, 2-0 GWOC South).

Stat Pack: The Skyhawks rushed 43 times for 248 yards, led by Winston Childers’ 119 yards, and more than doubled Springboro (1-6, 0-1) in time of possession. ... Williams passed for 199 yards. ... Springboro quarterback Josh Little threw touchdown passes to Jake Johnson and Jack Schaaf, who also threw a TD pass to Johnson.

Quote: “My freshman year on JV, we were both 9-0 when we played Springboro, but I had to start on varsity and we lost. We talked all week about how this was unfinished business.” — Fairborn QB Kendrick Williams.

Up Next: Springboro at Miamisburg; Fairborn at Xenia.
