The fate of Yellow Springs’ football season apparently will be decided by its school board. But that hasn’t prevented Greeneview and Cedarville from searching for new Week 2 and Week 3 opponents.

Greeneview was scheduled to host Yellow Springs on Sept. 3. Then, Yellow Springs was to host Cedarville on Sept. 10.

A date that the Yellow Springs school board will meet to address the 2010 football season has not been released. On Aug. 5, principal Tim Krier recommended that the varsity football season be canceled. The middle school program apparently is still good to go.

“For the past couple months we’ve been trying to get guys coming out, and it just wasn’t happening,” said Julie Speelman, the school’s dean of students and athletic director.

Speelman said just seven players showed up for the first day of practice.

This isn’t the first time football has been threatened at Yellow Springs. The Bulldogs often have about 20-25 players to begin a season and a lot less than that when the season ends.
