MIDDLETOWN — It’s been a wild week for Carlisle’s Seth Everhart.
The senior competed last Saturday morning for the first time in the Division II state track and field championships at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.
He placed 16th in the discus, then raced home to attend his high school graduation ceremony.
Since then, Everhart has returned to the gridiron where he has been practicing for tonight’s 28th annual Miami Valley Football Coaches Association White Allen Pigskin Classic all-star football game at Dayton’s Welcome Stadium.
“It’s been really busy to say the least,” Everhart said. “But it’s been good. I’m excited about the game and playing for Carlisle one last time.
“It’s weird being the only Carlisle guy,” he continued. “But I’ve played against most of the guys on my team for a while, so we all get along well.”
Everhart, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound offensive lineman, will leave June 16 to enroll in summer classes and begin football workouts at Ohio University.
“I think you always want to win,” Everhart said of how to approach an all-star game. “That’s just our nature, but at the same time you want to have fun and be safe because most of us are going onto the next level.”
Three Monroe players — David Routson, Devin King and Brett Timming — are among those who will play at college.
Timming is going to Walsh University, while Routson and King both plan to walk on at Dayton.
“It’s pretty great,” said Routson, who will play quarterback one last time. “I thought Bellbrook was going to be my last game as a Hornet, but I found out about this about a month ago and I’m really looking forward to it.”
“It’s unbelievable,” said King, who was a late addition to the roster. “I’m looking forward to stepping onto the field and playing under the lights again, and especially to play with Dave and Brett one more time. It’s pretty awesome.”
Also playing for the South team are Fenwick’s Justin Cox, Valley View’s Jake Jarbo and Brandon Fox, Lebanon’s Chris Benton and Brody Wolf, Springboro’s Jake Rigg and Hamilton’s Kenny Lewis, Terrion Jackson and Chaz Veal.
Longtime Edgewood assistant coach Terry Schanke also is being inducted into the MVFCA’s assistant coach Hall of Fame. He will be entering his 32nd year with the Cougars next season.
“It’s really a neat honor, but as coaches we don’t do this for the recognition,” Schanke said. “We do it for the love of the game and the kids.”
