Overview: Trotwood’s Trai Mobley saw through a sea of arms to haul in a 36-yard Hail Mary from Michael Simpson at the halftime gun to tie Xenia 20-20. “I was just focusing on the ball,” Mobley said. “We do drills like that in practice.” The pass, which found its way through three Xenia defenders, sparked a 34-point run by the visiting Rams as they moved to 7-0.
Turning point: Mobley returned a Xenia punt 51 yards to the Buccaneers’ 7. Two plays later, Isreal Green plowed in from 1 yard out to give Trotwood a 27-20 lead. Xenia went for it on its next possession, but on fourth-and-one from its own 37, Trotwood wrapped up Bobo Jones for a 2-yard loss. Five plays later, Simpson hooked up with Mobley for a 21-yard score and a 34-20 lead.
Stat pack: Green carried 14 times for 196 yards while Simpson completed 14 of 24 passes for 197 yards and four touchdowns. . ... Trotwood finished with 16 first downs and 409 yards of total offense but was penalized 14 times for 128 yards and lost a fumble. ... After completing 8 of 12 passes for 112 yards and two scores in the first half, Xenia QB Zack Newsock was 3 of 12 for 73 yards in the second. Xenia had three first downs in the second half.
