DAYTON — The Greeneview High School boys basketball team played lights-out for three quarters. In the fourth, Anna turned those lights off.
Leading 34-32 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Rams lost to Anna 52-44 on Thursday, March 11, in a Division III district final game at the UD Arena.
The Rams missed nine straight shots from the floor to start the fourth period, and two free throws from Zach Raynor with 6:31 left in the game were their only points until Evan Bradds made a layup at the 1:40 mark.
By that time, Anna had built a 45-36 lead with a 13-2 run.
“We had some pretty good shots in the fourth quarter that we just didn’t put down. That was the game right there,” Greeneview coach Bill Green said.
Greeneview rarely missed in the first half, shooting 11-for-17 (64.7 percent) from the field. Ronnie Drinnon, Greeneview’s 6-foot-6 forward, was able to shoot over the shorter Rockets for 12 points.
Anna’s Derek Billing, who averages 20 points, scored 12 of his team-high 14 in the fourth quarter and had four assists.
Anna (22-2) has won three straight district titles. The Rockets will play the winner of Columbus Bishop Ready and Worthington Christian at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday at Fairmont’s Trent Arena.
Greeneview ended with a 18-4 record.
Cin. Taft 68, Bethel 60: Scott Masin’s 29 points wasn’t enough for the Bees, who fell to the Senators in another D-III district final at UD Arena. Daniel Yates added 14 points for Bethel (18-5).
Adolphus Washington, a 6-6 sophomore forward, led Taft (21-2) with 25 points. The Senators will face the winner of the Madison/Shroder winner on Wednesday at Fairmont’s Trent Arena.
The game was delayed 45 minutes as paramedics attended to a cheerleader who suffered an injury.
