Greenville’s softball program has maintained its strong run and takes a 23-4 record into today’s multiple rescheduled Greater Western Ohio Conference crossover game at Centerville (19-7).

The Green Wave’s starting lineup is hitting an imposing .415. Paced by pitcher Ashley Hanes (21-3), thirteen of its wins have been by shutout. Greenville has lost only to Springfield, Tippecanoe, Newton and Loudenville.

Second baseman Tabby Enicks broke the school record for career hits of 180, a mark that was owned by Wright State University senior Justine Shilt. Nicole Davis is among the area’s home run leaders. She launched her seventh — a 240-foot clout — in a defeat of Cincinnati St. Ursula last weekend.

Greenville’s seniors have totalled a staggering 104 career wins, and more may well be on the way. Top-seeded in the Dayton Division II sectional tournament, the Green Wave play Stivers on Tuesday at Waynesville for that title.

Most of Greenville’s team also has excelled with the Ohio Wave Summer Travel Team.

Centerville was knocked out of the D-I postseason by Northmont on Tuesday, 2-0.

It never gets old

Here’s some often repeated news: Dunbar is once again the City League boys track and field champion. The Wolverines won their 17th straight title this week at Welcome Stadium. Marshall won its third straight girls title.

Dunbar senior Roger Williamson was a triple winner, taking the 100 meters (11.41 seconds), high jump (5 feet, 6 inches) and long jump (21-11¾). He’ll play football at Michigan State.

Marshall’s Ja’Naye Scott won the long jump for the fourth straight year (17-8. Meadowdale freshman Oksana Lawrence could be the next great City League sprinter after winning the 200 (25.66), 400 (58.44) and placing second in the 100 (12.83).

Jene’a Jennings of Stivers also was a triple winner, sweeping the 800, 1,600 and 3,200.

Sign on the line

There will be a GWOC collegiate signing recognition ceremony at 5 p.m. Sunday at Trent Arena.

About 170 seniors from the 18 conference schools will be recognized for where they are headed to play collegiate sports.

A group photo opportunity will be available at the conclusion of the event.
