CENTERVILLE — It’s not uncommon for basketball players to be statistics fanatics. Players often keep a running count on scoring average, shots per game, turnover/assist ratio, minutes played and anything else that they can chart.
Not Andrea Hoover.
“I don’t really pay attention to numbers,” said the senior Spring Valley Academy standout.
“I just like to win.”
The 5-foot-8 sure shot may well be the area’s best player this season. However, because Spring Valley is not affiliated with the Ohio High School Athletic Association, she won’t be on display against other area standouts.
But that hasn’t stopped Hoover from excelling in her favorite sport. She’s been a regular on the star-studded AAU Ohio Lady Attack the last two seasons and has excelled against national competition. She committed to the University of Dayton nearly two years ago and signed with the Flyers earlier this month.
For the record, Hoover averages “about 20 points and 10 rebounds. In close games, I score most of the points.”
Spring Valley was 25-2 last season and is off to a 6-0 start. The Seventh-day Adventist college-preparatory school is at Stivers on Dec. 21 and also will play Bethel, its only two OHSAA opponents.
“It’s an exciting time,” said Hoover about her senior season and graduating to the Flyers’ program.
“I really can’t wait.”
