Game of the Week: Beavercreek (4-2) at Centerville (5-1)

Where: Centerville Stadium

Notable: Centerville has the GWOC’s top offense heading into the DDN Game of the Week. The Elks are averaging 433.8 yards and 37.3 points per game led by QB Zak Bertram, who is fourth in the conference with 671 rushing yards. Beavercreek’s Gabe Henry is a spot ahead of Bertram, with 863 yards, but the Beavers’ offense has cooled with 34 points in the previous three games. Beavercreek will need help from its defense, ranked second in the conference in allowing 185.7 yards per game.

Northmont (4-2) at Springfield (4-2)

Where: Evans Stadium

Notable: Northmont has won three straight, and QB Robert Sakosky and RB Korey Ringer are both finally healthy. The Thunderbolts’ past three opponents have scored a combined 28 points, while Northmont has scored 101 points in the same period. Springfield is smarting after a 38-6 loss to Centerville, but the Wildcats will play just their third home game. QB George Walker and RB Trey DePriest have combined for 927 yards (154.5 per game) for Springfield, while Desmond McCowan is tied for the conference lead with 4.5 sacks.

Wayne (4-2) at Fairmont (3-3)

Where: Roush Stadium, Kettering

Notable: Fairmont started 1-0 in the GWOC Central Division by beating Beavercreek 10-7 last Friday. Firebirds sophomore QB Nick Bower is coming on strong with 432 passing yards in his previous three games. For Wayne, freshman QB Javon Harrison has subbed for injured starter Braxton Miller (thigh bruise) in two games, Wayne losses to Troy and Northmont, and Miller’s possible presence is key to the Warriors’ psyche.

Springboro (5-1) at Miamisburg (1-5)

Where: Harmon Field, Miamisburg

Notable: Springboro suffered its first loss last Friday to Lebanon, 21-20, even though RB Antoin Campbell rushed 36 times for 243 yards. That gives Campbell 1,062 yards for the season, or 177 per game. QB Jason Stinebaugh provides a nice second option, with 605 passing yards. Miamisburg has been within striking distance in losses to West Carrollton (21-19), Sidney (21-13) and Xenia (26-7), but the Vikings have lost five straight.

Xenia (2-4) at Fairborn (4-2)

Where: Buschmeyer Stadium, Fairborn

Notable: Fairborn’s defense has allowed 12 or fewer points in each of the Skyhawks’ four wins. The offense is fueled by the passing game, led by senior QB Ryan Cook, who is third in the GWOC in passing (740 yards). For Xenia, Will Jackson (5.3) and Brice Womack (6.1) are each averaging at least 5.3 yards per carry.

Alter (6-0) at Fenwick (5-1)

Where: Krusling Brothers Field

Notable: As strong as Alter’s offense has been (37.3 points per game), Fenwick has been almost as good, piling up 387 yards and 34.3 points per game. But teams have struggled mightily against the Knights’ defense, gaining just 132.3 yards per game. Fenwick’s Sam Keegan (559 yards, 8 TDS) and Joey Robertson (462 yards, 7 TDs) have led the Falcons’ offense.

CJ (5-1) at Carroll (3-3)

Where: Patriot Stadium, Riverside

Notable: CJ, partly benefiting from a forfeit from Marshall, is leading the D-III, Region 12 computer points after beating previously undefeated Fenwick last Friday. The Eagles boast RB Aaron Stokes, who leads the GCL in rushing with 628 yards. Carroll’s season has been up and down, and the Patriots rely heavily on a bevy on juniors. One of them, Alex Wolodkiewicz, has 461 rushing yards and 4 TDs.

Eaton (4-2) at Bellbrook (1-5)

Where: David Holmes Field

Notable: Bellbrook has gained confidence following the Golden Eagles’ first win, but they had been close before, losing its previous three by a combined 17 points. Eaton suffered its second loss last Friday to Milton-Union, 36-28, but QB Austin Fudge is trying to get the Eagles to a playoff spot. They stand No. 11 in D-III, Region 12.

Oakwood (0-6) at Waynesville (4-2)

Where: Clinton Fultz Field

Notable: Waynesville has won big the past two weeks against .500 teams, topping Preble Shawnee 59-13 and Dixie 55-24. The Spartans are part of the SWBL parade currently holding Top 8 spots in computer points, as they’re No. 7 in D-IV, Region 16. Oakwood has struggled with a young roster, and the Lumberjacks close with Waynesville, Milton-Union (3-3), Bellbrook (1-5) and Franklin (5-1).

Lebanon (5-1) at Troy (3-3)

Where: Memorial Stadium

Notable: Lebanon is looking strong in the GWOC South after a key 21-20 win against Springboro last Friday. Warriors QB Dusty Isaacs has passed for more than 200 yards in each of the past three games, including 208 against Boro. Troy has won two straight against Wayne and Butler to turn around a 1-3 start.

Well, obviously they must still sell some papers up there, just not enough to warrant alienating the masses. They must still be in the 'area' if the coaches are calling in their scores for other sports as well. Besides they still need something to put on the front page in December, even if the last two standing are Alter and Coldwater. I just think during the regular season, they have to do the articles for the neighborhoods where the subscriptions are most prevalent.

But how can you even say the MAC schools are in the "area" when they don't even get covered?

If no papers get sold in MAC country, then why do they make the front page come December?
