Fairborn clinched a share of the GWOC South title last week. Friday night, Lebanon made sure that the Skyhawks wouldn’t keep it to themselves. The Warriors had four plays of 50 yards or more and came up with a blocked punt and an interception on defense to hand Fairborn its first loss in GWOC South play.

Turning point: Neither offense could be stopped in the first half as the teams played to a 21-21 deadlock. Lebanon continued that trend to open the third quarter, marching 85 yards in four plays. That’s when the Warriors’ defense rose to the occasion. Jake Gerspacher sacked Fairborn quarterback Kendrick Williams on third down, and senior defensive back Zach Blaha blocked the ensuing punt and recovered it at the Fairborn 10-yard line. Three plays later, Luke Morgan scored from a yard out and the Warriors had a two-TD cushion that forced the Skyhawks to play catch-up for the rest of the game.

Stat pack: Morgan was efficient in the passing game, completing 6-of-9 passes for 195 yards and two TDs. Lebanon’s Aaron Abbott ran for 140 yards, caught a pass for 53 yards and returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown. Williams completed 14-of-25 passes for 199 yards and three TDs for Fairborn.

Quote: “We’re playing our best football of the season right now and it’s a good time to be doing that. Now, we get to play for a league championship.” — Lebanon coach Shawn Lamb

Up Next: Lebanon (6-3, 2-1) at Springboro (3-6, 2-1); Piqua (4-5) at Fairborn (6-3, 3-1)
