Lebanon girls soccer turns in big second half

For the second time in three years, the Lebanon High School girls soccer team will play for a district championship. The Warriors beat Vandalia-Butler 3-0 in the Division I Dayton I sectional finals on Monday, Oct. 26, scoring all of their goals in the second half.

Sidney Huth scored twice and Alyssa Plowman once as the Warriors improved to 14-3-2. Vandalia-Butler ended its season at 10-8-1.

“In the first half, we played Butler’s game which was at a much slower tempo than we like. That’s not our game,” Lebanon coach Bruce Bingham said.

“In the second half, we raised our intensity level, started winning the 50-50 balls and made use of our speed up top. I also think they got a little tired.”

Wayne 1, Carroll 0, OT: Nichole Stewart fired a hard shot that Carroll’s keeper was able to deflect, but the Warriors’ Cara Eby was there to scoop it up and score the winning goal in this D-I sectional final.

Wayne’s keeper Catie Yount collected six saves in the shutout. Wayne improved to 18-1-0; Carroll finished at 13-5-1.

Beavercreek 4, Springboro 1: Leah Suber scored two goals, both of which were assisted by freshman Micaela Powers, to help the Beavers advance in this D-I sectional final. Beavercreek improved to 17-0-2; Springboro fell to 8-7-4.

Centerville 2, Bellbrook 0: Kacie Kumar scored the first goal for the Elks, and Claire Falknor added the second in this D-I sectional final. Centerville improved to 17-1-1; Bellbrook finished at 13-4-2.

Waynesville 6, Preble Shawnee 0: Lauren Bunn scored two goals and assisted two others in this D-II sectional final. Waynesville improved to 17-1-1; Preble Shawnee finished at 9-6-2.

Greeneview 1, Northwestern 0: Katie Reed scored the lone goal, and the Rams’ keeper Anna Nock had two saves for a shutout in this D-II sectional final. Greeneview improved to 17-1-1.
