Overtime and a heated effort from the Marion Local High School football team weren’t enough to derail Delphos St. John’s undefeated season and its roll toward a state title game.

The Blue Jays defeated Marion Local 13-7 in the Division VI semifinal at Wapakoneta on Saturday, Nov. 28.

The game was a rematch from the regular season, where Delphos St. John’s won 35-14.

Wes Ulm’s 14-yard touchdown run in overtime was the game winner.

Delphos St. John’s led early when Ulm scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter. Marion Local answered with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Jarren Griesdorn to Jared Prenger.

Delphos St. John’s will face Norwalk St. Paul in the Division VI state final Saturday.

Marion Local and Delphos St. John’s have combined for nine state titles in football — six since 2000. St. John’s won the title in 2008 and in 2005. Marion Local won titles in 2000, 2001, 2006 and 2007.

The game marked the third time Midwest Athletic Conference teams met in the 2009 football playoffs. Coldwater defeated Anna and St. Henry in games between the conference’s schools.

Coldwater will play Younstown Ursuline on Friday in the Division V state final.

MAC teams were a combined 11-0 against teams outside their conference during the playoffs.

Chagrin Falls 20, Ottawa-Glandorf 14: Chris Goreman had a touchdown run, and Mark Jarasey caught a 31-yard touchdown pass for Chagrin Falls, which scored 13 unanswered points in the second half to win.

Brandon Kuhlman had a touchdown run for Ottawa-Glandorf.

Chagrin Falls plays Alter on Saturday in the Division IV state final.

Cle. Glenville 31, Massillon Washington 17: Glenville scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to break a tie with Massillon in a Division I state semifinal.

Glenville will play Hilliard Davidson in the Division I state final Saturday.

RJ ... can u tell me where the alter story is on the enquirer website? i looked but couldn't find it. they're representing the SW district in DIV at state so the enquirer should have a story. after all, they're representing the Cincy area too.

Con't,..Was the Dist winner. That means they represented the Dayton area as much as the Cincy area. Elder was from this Region. They won Dist. WHich the DDn did not report last week. SPORTS has no local when it is the Champonship games. If Wayne or C-ville had won, the Cincy Enq would have reported on the game. SO why as the Div 1-Reg 4 Rep, did the DDN not give them the just deserved press? Say what you like about them being a Cincy team,They represented the Dayton teams as much as Cincy.

Con't.. is playing in a major game-Fb- and the DDN prints nothing about it. Had this happen in Cincy, the Enq would have printed a story about the game and who won. They print the sports, DDn figures if a Dayton school in not playing screw reporting it. It is called SPORTS not DAYTON SCHOOLS ONLY. I mean in the other major papers across the state, this game had some press, OR at least a small story about the game. Yet the DDn doesn't report it. That's not Sports, its bias. Elder TBC

Mark, The DDN USED to be a paper that put Sports up front. It mentioned the teams playing, I mean they talked abut Winton Woods playing at Centerville for their Friday game. Yet a game across the river from DDN HQ's, please. This is the Semi Final HS Champinship Game, just a few hundred yards away IN their own back yard and YET nothing in the paper about it..OK online at least. I stopped buing the DDN when they went to $1. Fault me if you want. It is bias when a Cincy team -TBC

The best place for HS FB scores all across the state is Ohio News Network. Every week FB or BB scores. I like to get scores from every corner of the state and they have it all year. Too many people know people from other areas or have lived in one part of the state and now are in another and still like to follow their home town scores.
