Overview: Milton-Union used five turnovers to hold off nemesis Bellbrook, scoring a 17-3 win at Memorial Stadium in a SWBL crossover game Friday. The Bulldogs’ victory was the second in the past 10 games against the Golden Eagles. Bellbrook, which lost a fumble on the first play of the game, had its first three drives in the second half end on a pair of lost fumbles and an interception.
Turning point: Tied 3-3 with 1:27 in the half, Milton QB Cody Hollon found receiver Jason Antonides for a modest 9-yard gain to midfield. But Antonides, with a defender on his back, lateraled to Jake Finfrock who took it down the sideline the final 50 yards for the 10-3 lead.
Stat pack: Neither team got much going offensively in a defensive slugfest: Bellbrook finished with 253 yards and Milton 228 unofficially. ... Bellbrook QB P.J. Eckley rushed for 88 yards on 14 carries ... Leading tackler Jessie Simpson recovered a fumble in the third and had a key sack midway through the fourth.
Quote: “We challenged the kids to make plays. Don’t let the game come to you, go grab the game.” — Milton coach Bret Pearce.
“Josh (Easter) is a tough kid. He wanted to get up and walk off but the doctor wouldn’t let him do it.” — Bellbrook coach Kevin Basinger. Easter injured his neck in the third and was transported to an area hospital after a 20-minute injury timeout.
Up next: Milton (3-1) is at Madison; Bellbrook (1-3) is at Franklin.
