BROOKVILLE — Oakwood running back Colin Morris touched the ball fewer than 30 times, but to the Brookville football team’s defense, it must have felt like 100.
Oakwood harnessed itself to Morris and ran away with a 41-20 victory Friday. The 5-foot-8, 165-pound senior had 188 yards rushing, another 83 yards receiving and scored four touchdowns. On defense, he recovered a fumble.
Morris darted between defenders, thanks to an imposing performance by the offensive line.
“The line dominated tonight,” Morris said. “That was the key. The line has to come out and win games.”
Morris scored three times in the first half, but Oakwood only led 20-14. Brookville was able to sustain several long drives using a short-passing attack and a power running game.
Brookville quarterback Jake Harrison was 15-for-20 with 196 yards passing in the game with two touchdowns.
“My concern was what they did in the second quarter, which was chew the clock up a bit,” Oakwood coach Paul Stone said.
Oakwood was able to build a lead in the third when quarterback Matt Carpenter hit Levi Miller for a 60-yard touchdown pass.
Morris scored early in the fourth, but Brookville followed when Brendan Osborn caught a 20-yard touchdown pass.
Before Brookville could make a defensive stand, Carpenter busted a read-option play 69 yards for a touchdown to put it away.
Carpenter was 8-for-10 passing for 181 yards. He rushed 11 times for 88 yards.
While the numbers stood out, Stone saved his praise for his maligned offensive line, which has gone through its ups and downs this season before hitting its stride Friday.
“It doesn’t matter how good you are in the back, it’s all about the guys in the front,” Stone said.
