Dunbar bursts past Trotwood: The highly anticipated matchup between Dunbar and Trotwood-Madison at the Nutter Center on Sunday was tight through two and a half quarters, and then the Wolverines let loose. Dunbar outscored Trotwood 16-2 in the final 2:52 of the third quarter and beat Trotwood 78-62.
Waynesville surprises Bellbrook: Getting a lift from 6-foot-6 forward Stephen “Goose” Gossard, who missed part of the season while battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Waynesville (5-8) topped Bellbrook (11-3) 83-69 on Tuesday. Gossard scored 23 points, his highest output since his return.
Wayne rebounds with three wins: After losing to nationally ranked Montverde (Fla.) Academy in Flyin’ to the Hoop, Wayne rebounded with three wins against Beavercreek, Massillon Jackson and Troy, to improve to 12-2. Travis Trice averaged 18.3 points in the three games, and Markus Crider averaged 16.
Alter beats Fairmont in 1-vs-1 game: The Knights, No. 1 in the state in Division II and No. 1 in the DDN area ratings, pulled away late to beat Fairmont, No. 1 in the DDN D-I ratings, 48-39 on Monday. Alter improved to 15-0 behind a game-high 17 points from Ashley Christie.
CJ tops Beavercreek for rivalry win: Also on Monday, Chaminade Julienne and Beavercreek renewed their key area rivalry, and CJ got 15 points and 11 rebounds from sophomore Raytea Long in its 49-36 win. Even better for CJ coach Duane Williams: His daughters played basketball at Beavercreek for coach Ed Zink.
Xenia takes divisional showdown with Miamisburg: GWOC leading scorer Chelsea LaPorte scored 16 points for Miamisburg, but Jessica Alexander led Xenia with 17 points in the Buccaneers' 53-41 victory on Wednesday. Both teams entered 10-4 and are now tied for second at 3-2 in the GWOC South Division.
