Alter needs a torrent of runs to outlast Belmont
Runs poured like raindrops as Alter High School defeated Belmont 17-16 in softball on Tuesday, April 28.
Alter scored three in the bottom of the seventh, including Melissa Schroth driving in Tessa Gough with a line-drive double to score the winning run. Schroth finished with two doubles, a triple and a home run. Gough picked up the win on the mound.
It was the first win of the season for Alter (1-8). Belmont is 4-7.
Wayne 6, Springfield 5: Alexis Staas’ sacrifice fly scored Angie Clark in the bottom of the eighth for Wayne (13-6, 4-2 Greater Western Ohio Conference Central Division).
Badin 2, CJ 1: CJ lost in nine innings despite 13 strikeouts from Lyndsey Diggs, who has 142 strikeouts in 14 games this season.
Fairborn 6, Springboro 3: Sophie Bolser struck out five for Fairborn (10-6) while Brittany Duncan was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Hannah Gillespie was 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Baseball
Miamisburg 3, Fairmont 2: Colby Clark drove in Nic Cluxton in the sixth inning with the winning run. Clark was 2-for-3 for Miamisburg (11-6).
National Trail 4, Arcanum 3: Kaleb Rexrode drove home Nick Alcorn with a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth.
