LIMA — Austin Bruns passed for 225 yards and Jordan Chapin rushed for 59 yards and three touchdowns as the Coldwater High School football team topped Hicksville 41-21 in a Division V state semifinal on Friday to advance to the state final for the third straight season.
The ninth-ranked Cavaliers (11-3) will play second-ranked Kirtland (14-0) at 11 a.m. Friday at Massillon Tiger Stadium. They lost the last two state finals, both to Youngstown Ursuline.
Spg. Shawnee 56, Elida 42: The Braves (14-0) finished a furious comeback with 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to win this D-III state semifinal in Piqua. Quarterback Brad Jarzab accounted for five touchdowns, including a 68-yard run in the fourth quarter to break a tied game. Shawnee advanced to face 10th-ranked Youngstown Cardinal Mooney (10-3) in the state final at 3 p.m. Friday at Fawcett Stadium.
