SPRINGFIELD — Springfield High School football star Trey DePriest will attend the University of Alabama, he announced Friday, July 30, at Buffalo Wild Wings in downtown Springfield.
Hundreds of family, friends and fans packed the restaurant to hear his announcement. The place grew quiet as DePriest first thanked his family and friends.
He wore a huge smile as he announced, “I’m going to be spending the next three or four years of my academic and football career at Alabama.
His decision ends months of speculation. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker was one of the most sought-after recruits in the nation. Ohio State University, Virginia Tech, Louisiana State University and Notre Dame are among schools that recruited him.
ESPN.com rated DePriest the nation’s 33rd-best recruit. The website described him as “a versatile player with excellent playing strength and the speed capable of making big plays at any time. Has the size for the outside linebacker position at the major level of competition.”
DePriest’s two finalists were Alabama and Ohio State.
