CENTERVILLE — The Winton Woods High School football team galloped past the Tecumseh Arrows and into the Division II, Region 8 final next week.

The Warriors scored 33 points in the first half on their way to a 40-7 win on Friday, Nov. 13, at Centerville Stadium in a regional semifinal.

The Arrows finish the season with a 10-2 record, back-to-back playoff appearances and back-to-back Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail Division titles.

The Warriors had 295 yards rushing in the first half and scored touchdowns on five of their seven drives. They finished the game 462 total yards, 439 on the ground.

Winton Woods quarterback Dominique Brown, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound senior, showed why he’ll play at the University of Cincinnati next year with 198 yards rushing and two touchdowns. His last run of the game was an 80-yard sprint early in the third quarter. Jeremiah Goins followed that with a 1-yard run for the final score.

It went that way much of the night for the Arrows, who had no answer for the Warriors’ unyielding speed.

“I thought the kids were ready to play. I thought they were prepared. I felt like they played hard and gave a great effort,” Tecumseh head coach Kent Massie said. “I always ask them to give a great effort, and they certainly did that tonight. We just ran into a better football team than us.”

Tecumseh, the region’s No. 3 seed and ranked No. 8 in the state, scored its only touchdown on a 31-yard pass from Riley Gault to Ryan Christmann with 3:16 to go in the first quarter. The score was set up by a fumble recovery by Dustin Holmes, who also had an interception later in the half.

Otherwise, the Arrows couldn’t move the ball and finished with 156 total yards. Holmes had 42 yards rushing and Gault 52 yards passing before leaving with an ankle injury late in the first half.

The Arrows’ senior class leaves the program with the most wins in school history (36) and three playoff appearances, with one playoff win each time.

“You guys stepped up and played for pride,” Massie told the team after the game. “When you walk off the field, walk off with your head held high.”

Winton Woods (10-2, No. 6 in the state) will play Trotwood-Madison next week at a neutral site. Trotwood is the No. 4 seed and beat top-seeded Turpin on Friday.

Winton Woods has been to the Region 8 final two years in a row.

I was so upset to see THS go down so soon in the playoffs. My son plays for Shawnee and he knows that the game we had against you guys sold us that we can beat these less harder scheduled D3 Region 12 teams if we got into tourney. So, THS dont drop your heads for nothing. When you play like you do,you pull out the better in all who play you.You challenge them, and these kids need it.Shawnee was made stronger with your help.So i say to THS and the boys who played..GO ARROWS!!!

It was obvious that Winton Woods had the advantage in all areas. Depth, strength, size and overwhelmingly speed. I am a graduate and my daughter is a cheerleader so I have attended 10 of 11 games and there are not too many teams that can play with us.I thought the coaches were classy not letting the score become ugly. The trotwood game will draw more Winton Wood fans and might be slightly more competitive.

Look at what the two has done all season.WW plays 2 D2 team and the rest all D1..and they spank the D1 teams..THS..1 D1 a few D2 and the rest of the league is determined if we beat D3 teams...theres something wrong with anyone happy about the league we are in.We should be winning everything.there all D3.Id like to see the boys play all D2 teams and D1 teams in regular season so they have more comp through the season.Shawnee and Bell was all the comp we got this year.our kids need more!Gj

disappointing end lol think not. you cant say they had a disappointing end , when they have one two cbc and semi regional state finals.

It would only be disappointing if they was beating winton woods 21-0 at half time and then let them beat them .

A huge crowd, led by Jimmy Berner, supported the Arrows - probably four times more than WW brought up from Cincy. WW was more like a small college team - dozens of kids over 200 pounds, and four over 250! They just could not be stopped on the line and opened up holes for their runners, who were lightning fast. Christman was the only Arrow who could run them down, but the Arrows fought hard and never gave up and had many great moments in the loss. A great season comes to a disappointing end.
