HUBER HEIGHTS — The senior season of Wayne High School quarterback and star recruit Braxton Miller will begin in the spotlight.

The Warriors have accepted an invitation to play in the Kirk Herbstreit Varsity Football Series during Labor Day weekend, moving their scheduled game against Canton McKinley for the opportunity to play in Ohio Stadium on ESPNU.

The Sept. 5 game against McKinley will follow Wayne’s Week 1 matchup against Moeller. The Warriors and Crusaders will play in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown on Aug. 29 at St. Xavier High School in a game also broadcast on an ESPN property, said Wayne coach and athletic director Jay Minton.

Miller, Wayne’s 6-foot-2, 185-pound quarterback, has received scholarship offers from many of the country’s major college powers, including Ohio State, USC, Florida, Alabama and Notre Dame. His star power, as well as Division I recruits Tre Moore (defensive back), Anthone Taylor (running back) and Machael Bonner (defensive back), makes Wayne an attractive participant in such events.

Wayne topped McKinley 27-14 at Canton’s Fawcett Stadium last season, and the schools agreed to form a new two-year contract with games in Canton this season and at Wayne in 2011. After moving their game this season to the Herbstreit Series, they extended the contract another year, with games in Canton in 2011 and at Wayne in 2012.

Moeller (9-1) and McKinley (6-4) were playoff participants last season.

“It’s exciting any chance you have to play in the Shoe, and it’s great exposure and opportunity for our kids,” Minton said. “Plus, it’s a motivating thing. They know if they’re not prepared, it’s going to be on national television.”

This is Millers year to make or break his future. You have to think this kid is going to give it everything he has to get the scholarships. This season should be interesting with Wayne because people are expecting a lot from this team. If Miller gets hurts again he is finished so he had better be in perfect physical shape.

Don't bother listening to Cincy school fans because they don't matter. If their kids think they're smart, then they prove themselves wrong by going to N(o) D(efense) or (sc)UM. If they already know they are dumb, then they go to UC, WVU, or some SEC team.

Centerville has a good team this year. Wayne is getting the press mainly because of Miller. I just hope that Miller can take the spotlight and not let it get to his head.
