CINCINNATI — Things looked promising for the Wayne High School football team when quarterback Braxton Miller ran for a 61-yard touchdown on the game’s fourth play.

Then Elder’s offense — including quarterback Mark Miller and running back Ben Coffaro — took the field.

Mark Miller passed for 270 yards and three touchdowns and Coffaro scored four times to help Elder beat Wayne 35-14 on Saturday, Nov. 7, in a Division I, Region 4 quarterfinal at Elder’s The Pit.

After the Warriors (7-4) took the early lead, Elder took control physically, Wayne coach Jay Minton said.

“After that, they just handled us up front, both sides of the ball,” Minton said. “That was it.”

After Braxton Miller’s opening score, Elder (8-2) drove to touchdowns on its first three possessions on a 52-yard pass from Miller to Tim O’Conner, an 18-yard pass from Miller to Coffaro and a 10-yard Coffaro run to go up 21-7 with 10:52 left in the second quarter.

Wayne forced the first Elder punt with 3:41 left in the first half, and the defense stiffened even as the offense gained just 45 yards in the first half following the initial 80-yard drive.

Mark Miller finished the first half 13-of-18 passing for 175 yards and two touchdowns. Coffaro scored two more times, on a 40-yard pass from Mark Miller in the third quarter and a 30-yard run on a direct snap, to help Elder increase its lead to 35-7 with 8:43 left.

Braxton Miller tossed a 47-yard touchdown to Caleb Elkins with 6:05 left, but Elder already had its commanding lead.

“They weren’t more physical than we’ve seen — from Centerville and even Canton McKinley — but they just executed,” Minton said. “They just executed better than we did.”

Hey B. You are right on ONE point. If Anderson played in the GWOC they may not make the playoffs because pounding the GWOC schools every week may not give enough computer points. Thanks for making my point you idiot. The GWOC is a good little league for Dayton but please put it in perspective. They can't hang with the teams down south OR up north. Be happy beating Xenia & Miamisburg. Hey, you have West Carrollton & Greenville coming. Now there is some power houses.

Well the guy 2 doors down, cut my grass, too out my trash and made certain all around my yard was up to snuff. So I know they don't recruit. SO just shut up about it.

Dayton teams need a reason to show how they lost. So you yell RECRUITING from GCL schools. Cry Baby. So prove where the GCL schools do that. Don't post OH YOU RECRUIT. with no facts toprove it. So prove it. OR just shut up. NO I am not an Elder Grad. I went to the Burg. Just know a friend whos sons went to Elder and have become great friends with many Eloder people. Real down to earth and best I have ever seen. I was hurt a couple of years back. the Elder grad 2 doors down from me. TBC..

I should say have gone to the GCL schools not just Elder. However that is my point. They have a history of going to a GCL school. One whose Dad played at Elder may go to St x, but the guy next door would go to Elder. Or vis a vis. They grow up wearing Purple or Moe Gold or St x Blue or LaSalle Red. R3Best, please prove to me, which would mean the OHSAA, that Elder or St X or LaSalle or Moe doesn any illegal recruiting? People from Dayton always use that excuse when they lose. TBC..
