Lebanon looks good; OSU, not so much

This is a great time of year for sports fans. The baseball playoffs are starting; college and pro football are getting interesting; and high school fall sports are heating up. With that in mind ...

Things I’m sold on

• The Lebanon Warriors. Who would have thought the Warriors would be the leading contender to represent the Dayton area in the Division I football playoffs, especially in the same region as Centerville, Northmont and Wayne? Computer points will be harder to come by for Lebanon compared to the big three in coming weeks, but Lebanon could run the table.

• The New York Yankees. As much as it pains me to say, I think the Yankees will buy, I mean win, the World Series. Offense, pitching and Alex Rodriguez finally show up.

Things I’m not buying

• The Cincinnati Bengals. Players (and fans) have to be concerned about Marvin Lewis’ lack of killer attitude, wanting to punt and settle for a tie against Cleveland. Gutsy calls can make for great seasons. Settling for anything less than a win makes for Cincinnati-like seasons.

• The Ohio State Buckeyes. The skill positions aren’t game-breaking, the quarterback position has not improved and the play-calling lacks creativity. Former quarterback Todd Boeckman has to be saying, “I was benched for that?” Good news for Buckeyes fans is the Big Ten is no better.
