Q: Who will start at tailback for the RedHawks tonight?
A: It’s anybody’s guess, although Tyrone Jones was the most impressive last week with 58 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. “It’s still kind of by committee,” Miami head coach Don Treadwell said. “Each week we find out who’s hot and we stick with him a little bit.” Treadwell did say that Jones “is not the biggest back in the world (he is 5-foot-7, 182 pounds) but pound for pound he’s a tough nut.” Treadwell also said true freshman Chrishawn Dupuy still is in the rotation and that sophomore Erik Finklea, who leads Miami rushers with 328 yards, “gets in a little bit but he’s had some nagging things.”
Q: Which team is favored by the oddsmakers to win?
A: Miami by 16.5 points.
Q: Which RedHawks player seems to concern Akron coach Rob Ianello the most?
A: Quarterback Zac Dysert. Ianello said that from watching video of Dysert, “I think he’s playing as well as any quarterback in our league.”
Q: How goes senior wide receiver Chris Givens rank among Miami’s all-time leaders in touchdown receptions?
A: Givens caught two passes for touchdowns last week, giving him four for the season and 14 for his career. That moved him into a three-way tie for 10th place with John Erisman (1964-66) and Clive Rush (1950-52). Next on the list with 15 are Andy Schillinger (1984-87) and former Givens’ former teammate, Armand Robinson (2007-10). The all-time leader is Michael Larkin (2001-04) with 32.
Q: How do the rushing games of Miami and Akron compare?
A: The Zips rank 97th in the nation with 120.4 yards per game, but that’s almost twice as many as the RedHawks (120th in the nation with 67.5 yards per game).
