OXFORD — Miami University’s football team is about to face a dangerous dual-threat quarterback capable of burning any defense with his ability to run and pass.
Buffalo senior quarterback Chazz Anderson comes to Yager Stadium today as the current Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week.
In the Bulls’ 31-30 loss to Northern Illinois last Saturday, Anderson passed for 406 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 56 yards and a touchdown.
“He’s a very talented young man and has really energized them,” Miami coach Don Treadwell said of Anderson, who transferred to Buffalo from Cincinnati. “He’s so dynamic, he’s so fleet of foot. He has the ability to not only throw it, but he’s a dangerous runner. We’ve faced that type of quarterback a number of times.”
Four times, to be exact.
Missouri quarterback James Franklin, Minnesota’s MarQueis Gray, Cincinnati’s Zach Collaros and Army’s Trent Steelman combined to average 161.9 yards passing and 112.3 yards rushing in their games against the RedHawks.
“Most of the teams we’ve played have had that type of quarterback,” Treadwell said. “They can not only sit back and throw, but once they tuck the ball, it’s like having another running back.”
Only a missed extra point prevented Buffalo from taking Northern Illinois to overtime last week after having trailed by 21 points in the fourth quarter.
“Chazz made some outstanding plays,” Quinn said. “We were 4-for-4 on fourth downs. There was one that we called on fourth down that Chazz escaped the pass rush and threw the ball left-handed to Eddie Young, our receiver.”
Buffalo’s 572 yards of total offense against Northern Illinois were the most the Bulls have gained since becoming a Division I-A Bowl Subdivision program in 1999.
