Quinten Rollins was torn.
The Wilmington High School senior basketball standout’s college choice came down to Miami and Wright State.
In the end, the RedHawks won out.
Rollins, a 6-foot, 175-pound point guard, committed to the RedHawks over the holiday weekend. He attended Miami’s Elite Camp last week.
“Miami and Wright State were his two primary choices and it was a tough decision,” Wilmington coach Mike Noszka said. “ ... I don’t know which way he was going to go but I was very, very comfortable in either decision. We’re very fortunate in this area to have so many good college basketball programs.”
Rollins, a three-time, all-Fort Ancient Valley Conference Cardinal Division first-teamer, averaged 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists last season. He led the Hurricane to a 21-3 mark and a berth in the Division II regionals. Wilmington lost to Thurgood Marshall in the regional semis.
“He’s a kid that athletically is definitely ready to play at that level,” Noszka said. “He’s got good straight-line speed and quickness. He can get to the rim and make things happen. Defensivley, he can pressure the daylights out of the basketball. He’s definitely ready to guard right away at that level.”
Rollins was playing in an AAU tournament Monday in Indianapolis and unavailable for comment.
The RedHawks also received a verbal commitment for the 2010-11 season from Josh Sewell, a 6-5, 200-pound guard/forward from Louisville (Ky.) Trinity High School. Sewell is considered one of Kentucky’s top players in the Class of 2010.
Rollins and Sewell can sign letters of intent beginning Nov. 9, the first day of the NCAA early signing period for basketball.

Also I'm pretty sure Sewell was never offered a scholarship to UD. He was just being recruited in case some of the other guys don't commit. He was just a backup.

I wonder why they didn't have the headline "Miami beats out UD for Sewell's services"? He's a bigger recruit than Rollins. Must be because that would shed negative light on UD.
