RedHawks finish second at Dayton 5K

KETTERING — The Miami men’s cross country team finished in second place at the Dayton Flyer 5K Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 5, at Indian Riffle Park, finishing behind host Dayton. The RedHawks, who finished with 34 points, had won the race each of the last six years.

Kevin Silver finished in fourth place in a time of 15:12. Paul Krebs finished seventh for a second straight year, in a time of 15:18. Brian Gallagher, running in his first race as a RedHawk after transferring from Ohio State, took eighth overall, while Robbie Fisher followed in ninth and fellow teammate Michael Perry placed 10th.

The RedHawks return to action Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Iona Meet of Champions in Bronx, N.Y.

Miami women win Dayton 5K again

KETTERING — Placing five runners in the top nine, the Miami University women’s cross country team earned its third straight Dayton Flyer 5K Invitational title Saturday morning at Indian Riffle Park.

Margaret Bingham led Miami with a third-place finish in 18:17. Laura Neufarth, the two-time defending champion at the race, finished fourth in 18:23, while Katie Lenahan was fifth just a second later.

Kelley Miller was the RedHawks’ fourth finisher, crossing the line in eighth, while Amanda Mirochna (Naperville, Ill.) finished ninth as the ’Hawks finished with 29 points. The RedHawks return to action Friday, Sept. 18, at the MSU Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Mich.

Western Kentucky defeats Miami 3-1

INDIANAPOLIS — The Miami University volleyball team dropped the final three sets to fall to Western Kentucky in its second game of the Indiana University Purdue University-Indianapolis (IUPUI) Hampton Inn Invitational. The RedHawks are now 1-4 on the season, while the Lady Toppers improve to 3-3.

Michele Metzler led Miami with nine kills. Lisa Treadway had 10 digs and Amy Kendall led with 21 assists. The RedHawks conclude play at the Hampton Inn Invitational when they play the host IUPUI at 3 p.m., today.
