YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Senior Anasatia Dracheva became the Miami University’s first four-time all-conference selection in women’s tennis on Thursday during the All-Mid-American Conference awards ceremony. The Moscow, Russia, native joined junior Stephanie Danesis on the first team, while senior Megan Martzolf was a second-team choice.
First-year head coach Anca Dumitrescu was named the league’s Coach of the Year, marking the third straight year that Miami’s mentor has won the award. The RedHawks won their third straight regular-season title, finishing 17-5 overall and 8-0 in the MAC.
Dracheva, on the first team all four of her seasons, holds a 24-7 record this year, including 19-3 and dual matches and 8-0 in league play. Danesis is 22-10 overall with a 17-5 mark during the spring.
Miami begins defense of its 2009 and 2010 MAC Tournament Championships at 10 a.m. today. The top-seeded RedHawks take on No. 8 Ball State at Ypsilanti High School. The Cardinals defeated Northern Illinois 4-0 in Thursday’s first-round match.
