OXFORD — Erica Almady, who played for Lakota West High School’s state runner-up girls basketball team as a sophomore before moving to the Cleveland area, is one of four players who signed a national letter of intent to play for Miami University.
Miami’s ice hockey, volleyball and softball teams also announced signings on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
Almady, a 5-foot-11 forward, led Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown to the Division II state championship last season. She averaged 10 points and 8 rebounds per game last season.
During the 2007-08 season, Almady made her first appearance in a state final while playing for Lakota West in the Division I tournament. That year she played in 21 games for the Firebirds and averaged 4.7 points.
“Erica is a very skilled inside player who can step out and hit the 3,” Miami coach Maria Fantanarosa said. “She is a power forward who outworks people.”
Fantanarosa also announced she had signed twins from New Albany High School, 5-8 guards Haley and Hannah Robertson, and 6-2 post player Kelsey Simon of Stevenson High in Vernon Hills, Ill.
“The Robertsons are the first twins that I have signed in my coaching career,” Fantanarosa said. “They are both athletic guards who are very competitive. Haley is a shooting guard who continues to improve at a rapid pace. Hannah is a dominant scorer who is explosive to the basket as an off guard, but also has the skills to play some point.”
Hockey coach Enrico Blasi announced the signing of five players, including three who are teammates on the Indiana Ice of the United States Hockey League.
The Ice teammates are Shane Berschbach of Clawson, Mich.; Max Cook of Frankfort, Ill.; and Alex Wideman of St. Louis, Mo., who is the brother of Miami player Chris Wideman.
Miami’s other recruits are Christopher “Cody” Murphy (no hometown listed) and Jimmy Mullins, of Cincinnati.
Volleyball coach Carolyn Condit announced the signings of Kayleigh Cox, a 6-1 outside hitter from Freeburg, Ill.; Madison Dodd, a 5-11 outside hitter from Waterloo, Ill.; and Madison Hardy, an outside hitter (no height listed) from Louisville, Ky., who has led Mercy Academy to back-to-back state titles.
Softball coach Kelly Kovach Schoenly announced the signing of infielder Kirstie Fehrenbach, of Powell; outfielder Brandi Hernandez, of Bartlett, Ill.; catcher Kayla Ledbetter, of Gahanna; and pitcher Paige Myers, of Grove City.
