Thoreson Earns Pitcher of the Week honor
CLEVELAND -- Miami sophomore Mac Thoreson has been named Mid-American Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week for the period of April 25 - May 1, the league office announced today. He is the third RedHawk in as many weeks – and fourth of the season to gain a MAC award.
A native of Knoxville, Tenn. (Farragut HS), Thoreson threw Miami’s first complete game of the season Friday, a five-hit, 1-0 shutout over Bowling Green. He did not walk a batter, but hit a pair. Thoreson retired 20 of the last 22 batters he faced (one single, one HBP), including 14 straight between the fourth and ninth innings. His four strikeouts increase his season total to 49, one more than during his freshman campaign last year.
The right-hander lowered his ERA to 1.49 for the season, including 0.92 in conference play. He is now 4-2 on the season, allowing hitters a .211 batting average against him.
Miami (26-18) is off this week for final exams before heading to Kent State on Friday for a weekend showdown with the 28th-ranked Golden Flashes. The RedHawks, winners of eight in a row, trail KSU by two games in the East Division standings.
