Miami settles for tie
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The third-place Miami RedHawks gained a point in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association standings on second-place Notre Dame on Friday night.
But it could’ve been a three-point night.
Leading 5-3, Miami, which is ranked 11th and 13th in the two major national polls, surrendered two goals in the final 7:13 of regulation and settled for a 5-5 tie with the Fighting Irish at the Joyce Center. The RedHawks won the shootout to pick up an extra point in the CCHA standings.
Andy Miele had a goal and three assists, Reilly Smith had two goals, Pat Cannone had a goal and an assist, Carter Camper had two helpers and Justin Vaive had a goal for Miami (14-9-4, 11-7-4-3 CCHA). No. 9 Notre Dame is 16-9-4, 13-6-2-1 CCHA.
The two teams meet again at 5:05 p.m. today.
