OXFORD — Miami University’s hockey team strengthened its grip on first place in both major national polls following its 1-0 and 4-0 sweep over Notre Dame last weekend.
Miami, 11-2-5 overall, received 36 first-place votes in the USCHO.com rankings (an increase of 16 votes) and 29 first-place votes in the USA Today poll (a jump of 11 votes). It is the ninth straight week the RedHawks have been ranked first in both polls.
The top three spots in both polls remained unchanged. Denver is No. 2 and North Dakota is No. 3.
The RedHawks also improved their hold on first place in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. Miami has an 8-1-3-1 record for 28 points. Michigan State is a distant second with 23 points.
Miami returns to the ice this weekend with pair of games against Ohio State. The RedHawks will play the Buckeyes in Columbus on Friday, Dec. 11, and in Oxford on Saturday, Dec. 12. Both contests start at 7:05 p.m.
Notre Dame dropped from No. 14 to No. 18 in the USCHO Top 20. The Fighting Irish dropped out of the USA Today Top 15 after being ranked No. 15 a week ago.
