Ohio State President Gordon Gee supports a plan that would put Ohio State and Michigan in separate divisions of a reorganized Big Ten Conference,. He also endorses a schedule that wouldn’t have the longtime football rivals play each other in the final game of the regular season.
Gee, in a meeting Thursday, Aug. 26, with Dayton Daily News reporters and editors, said he believed a new setup in the Big Ten would benefit the conference and Ohio State.
The Big Ten earlier this summer added Nebraska as its 12th member, and the conference is considering a number of schedule changes for the 2011 season. Those changes could affect traditional games, including the OSU-Michigan game, which has for decades been the final game of the regular season.
Gee also supports a Big Ten championship game, which is expected to be played next year in Indianapolis.
He noted that a realigned conference and a Big Ten championship game would give Ohio State the chance to play Michigan more than once each season.
“We want to beat them twice,” Gee said.
