FAIRBORN — Athletes are always asked to forget the game just past and concentrate on the game coming up, and that’s exactly what the Wright State Raiders will have to do beginning today, even though senior guard Todd Brown said, “We’ll be talking about this one at the end of the year.”
This one was Saturday’s 70-67 loss at Northeastern, where a first-half 14-point lead evaporated, the Raiders fell behind by seven, regained the lead and had the ball with a good game-ending shot in a tie situation.
Not only did the shot fail, but Northeastern heaved in a nearly half-court shot as the buzzer was sounding to win the game.
The Raiders watched film of that “painful” game Sunday night and began to talk about this week, which will have a lot more to say about how the team finishes the season than the Northeastern game.
Because the Horizon League participates in the ESPN BracketBusters, one weekend during normal league-play has to be moved, and that weekend is this week, when Cleveland State visits WSU on Thursday and Youngstown State comes in Saturday.
Remember, Thursday’s game will be broadcast on ESPNU, so it begins at 9 p.m., two hours later than usual. It also features the defending HL tournament champion CSU, even though the Vikings lost two of their best players to graduation in J’Nathan Bullock and Cedric Jackson.
Cleveland State does have two Dayton Dunbar grads in the lineup in junior guard Norris Cole and sophomore center Aaron Pogue.
The Youngstown State game will begin at the normal time of 7 p.m.
