WEST CARROLLTON — Matt Muncy has always been a fan of strongman, power-lifting, cross-fit and marathon competitions.

That’s why Saturday’s debut of his Ultimate Athlete Competition will feature the best of all those disciplines.

“I know the fitness community pretty well and the sports training,” said Muncy, founder of Renegade Warehouse, an emerging training facility in West Carrollton that opened last November.

“I’ve seen what else is out there. I haven’t seen anything exactly like this.”

Muncy is a former Miamisburg High School and Ohio University football standout. A decorated linebacker at OU, he signed free-agent contracts with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2007 and the Tennessee Titans in ’08.

His commitment to the weight room and physical fitness all those years has turned into a professional passion.

He has culled six events from those popular competitions. Combined, they’ll test participants’ strength, agility, stamina, explosiveness and athletic ability.

There will be at least three divisions, divided by weight. Competitors will be awarded a point value depending on how they fare in each event. The top three in each division will win a free training period at Renegade Warehouse.

Most of the participants likely will be high school athletes, but it’s open to all, of any age.

Among the events is a heavy-truck pull, in which contestants will strap on a harness and pull a truck as far as possible in a predetermined amount of time.

Muncy is a certified strength and conditioning specialist and also is a sports nutrition and supplement specialist. He aspires to be a strength coach at a major college.

He mostly works with high school athletes at the Warehouse. He also is the strength coach for the Miamisburg football program.

“These type of events are really more testing athletic ability,” he said.

“You’re going to need strength and quickness and you have to have tons of athletic ability to really do well in these events.”
