About the Flyers

They seemed to get a lift with the return of senior point guard Rob Lowery, who had been out nearly 10 months with a knee injury. He had eight points and three assists in eight minutes as they rolled to an 89-71 victory over Lehigh on Saturday, Dec. 5. Even though the Mountain Hawks were playing without all-league forward Zahir Carrington, the Flyers’ 39-24 advantage on the boards in that game was impressive. They pulled out a 66-62 win over George Mason last season after falling, 67-56, to the Patriots two years ago.

About the Patriots

They were picked to finish fourth in the Colonial Athletic Association. They’re coming off a 57-52 win at North Carolina-Wilmington to go 1-0 in the CAA. They finished 1-2 in the Puerto Rico Tip-off Classic, losing to Villanova (69-68) and Georgia Tech (70-62) and beating Indiana (69-66). They’ve been getting outrebounded by 4.3 per game. They’ve averaged 6,056 fans for two games in the Patriot Center this year and drew 6,295 per outing last season.

FYI

Coach Jim Larranaga is in his 13th season at GM and is 236-150 with seven postseason appearances, including a 2006 Final Four run. He was coach for 11 years at Bowling Green, going 170-144 and making three NIT trips.
