Alexandre Gavrilovic loved his visit to the University of Dayton last week, is sold on coach Archie Miller’s style of play and bonded with the staff and returning players.
The 6-foot-9 forward from IMG Academy — who played on the French U-20 national team last summer — still is sorting through his college options, but he’s getting close to making a decision.
He said he’ll announce his choice before the end of the spring signing period May 19 or maybe even by Friday before he returns home to France.
“I think I know, but I don’t think I’m going to tell anybody for the moment,” he said Tuesday. “I want to talk to my coach and family first.”
Gavrilovic signed as a senior with Providence in 2010 but was released from his letter-of-intent after a coaching change. He sat out last season but stayed in shape by working out at IMG in Florida and then with the gold-medal-winning French squad. He would have four years of eligibility.
He visited Towson University this week. The assistant who recruited him at Providence, Pat Skerry, is the Tigers’ new coach.
He said he may take one more visit to either Texas Tech or SMU this week.
Gavrilovic said his trip to Towson went well. He raved, though, about UD.
“It was a great visit. The campus is very nice. I love the facilities. I love the coaches. The gym is huge. The program is very enticing,” he said.
Miller also made a favorable impression.
“He came to IMG three weeks ago and we talked,” Gavrilovic said. “I like his type of coaching. We spent time in the gym during the weekend, and he told me how he’d use every player. It was great.
“I’m a 4 (man) who can play inside and outside. I want to play for a team that will let me post inside and shoot outside. I don’t want to be only a post or only outside. I have a different type of game. I want to be tough to defend. And I think I can do that at Dayton.”
