About Wright State

The Raiders have lost three straight, all on the road, since leading scorer Julius Mays (13.4 ppg) injured his left Achilles tendon and calf muscle on Jan. 8. Mays played in losses against Wisconsin-Milwaukee and UW-Green Bay but was out for Saturday’s 69-53 loss at Detroit. Darling led WSU with 10 points, while freshman guard Reggie Arceneaux, the team’s second-leading scorer (9.0 ppg), added nine points. WSU coach Billy Donlon said he expects Mays’ availability to be a game-time decision, and freshman forward Tavares Sledge, who didn’t play Saturday (coach’s decision), will play today. Sophomore guard Vance Hall continues to be unavailable after suffering a concussion in practice last week. WSU ranks No. 52 nationally in scoring defense (61.7 ppg) but No. 324 (out of 338) in scoring offense (58.3).

About Illinois-Chicago

The Flames are 1-5 in their past six, including an eight-point loss to Butler last Thursday and a five-point loss to first-place Valparaiso on Saturday. Barnes and Talton drive the team from the backcourt, and they have been close to several league wins, as five of their Horizon League losses have come by 3, 2, 4, 8 and 5 points. Humes, a transfer from Toledo, had his best game of the season against Valparaiso, with 11 points, six rebounds and six assists. UIC leads the Horizon League in rebounding (36.6 per game) but ranks last in shooting percentage (39.3).

FYI

WSU topped UIC 74-70 in overtime on New Year’s Eve, as Mays scored 21 points for the Raiders and Williams set a career high with 22 points for the Flames.

Quote, unquote

“I think there are guys who have to play with a little more urgency at the offensive end of the floor and not wait for other guys to make plays.” — WSU coach Billy Donlon.
