About the Hawks

The team is on a three-game winning streak after losing first five games. The Hawks don’t shoot very well — 38 percent — and just 27.5 percent from 3-point range and 62.8 percent from the foul line, although UMES did make 21-of-27 from the line (77.8 percent) vs. Navy. The Hawks compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and are coming off exams heading into a five-game road trip that takes them to Northern Illinois, Ball State, Nebraska and Oklahoma after WSU. Teams have scored 70 or more points against them in six games.

About the Raiders

Despite 80-69 loss at Mississippi State, WSU coach Brad Brownell was not unhappy with the way the team played. He didn’t like the 13 blocked shots, but other than that, thought team’s shot selection was good. He also liked the defense, noting on some of MSU’s 3-point shots, the shooter was defended as well as could be. This game is the start of a three-game homestand continuing with Arkansas-Little Rock on Tuesday and Sam Houston State the following Monday.

FYI

WSU senior point guard John David Gardner — coming off hip surgery — is getting closer to when he will be ready to play. He has broken away from some individual drills to participate in team drills and visits his doctor in Columbus again Monday. He could be ready to play when Horizon League play resumes Dec. 31 at Loyola (Chicago).
