TWO MEN WITH

THE BLUES

Willie Nelson collaborations are nothing new, but Wynton Marsalis? That's one we never saw coming.

Recorded at a January 2007 concert performed at Lincoln Center over two magical nights, the unlikely pairing of country crooner Nelson and trumpeting jazz master Marsalis is a resounding success.

The rich perfection that results from the pairing is nearly a modern-day classic recording blending old standards ("Georgia on My Mind," "Stardust") with original tunes written by Nelson himself ("Night Life," "Rainy Day Blues")

The musicians feel so comfortable and organic together you'd think that they had been performing alongside each other for years. Let this album serve as proof that if something sounds like a bad idea musically, you may want to try it out to be sure.

Grade: B+

iPod picks: "Night Life," "That's All"
