The Oregon District's Link Gallery is showcasing local artists in current exhibition.

Why go outside of the wregion to find great art, when Dayton artists produce wonderful works right here close to home? That's the philosophy of Kaye Carlile and Susanne Scherette King, owners of Link Gallery, one of the newest art venues in the Oregon District.

The gallery's current exhibit, "Unchained," celebrates the creations of 23 local artists in various mediums.

Extras

"We have a lot of talented people around here," agrees Tom Tornatore, building owner and president of Midtown Development Corp.

"Art is a brand new segment that hasn't been in the Oregon District before, so we are getting a lot of new visitors to the area."

Featured artists include Erin Holscher Almazan, Jeffrey Cortland Jones, Peter Gooch, Jennifer Rosengarten, Joel Whitaker and Sean Wilkinson, all with ties to the University of Dayton. Almazan is showing prints, and Jones is presenting his abstract compartmentalized paintings. Gooch is showing his large-scale mixed-media works that include ground minerals, garnets and pigments that are poured onto various media, then dried, and layered on the canvas. Rosengarten is showing a vibrant colored, Monet-like vision of nature.

Artists affiliated with Wright State University are Glen Cebulash, Stefan Chinov, David Leach and Jon Swindler. Chinov not only came into the gallery to hang his own mixed-media work, but he also helped arrange the other art as well.

"There are a number of artists who haven't had a local venue to show their work, and they are very excited about this show, and we are excited to have them," said King.

Bob Colaizzi is one of those artists. He has shown his highly stylized art deco furniture and sculpture in Chicago, but not here. Also showing their metal sculptures are Michael Bashaw and Jim Moser.

Marc Suda is presenting his elegant sepia-toned photographs and Tom Keen is exhibiting his wooden bowls. Those familiar with Thomas Chapman's fluted vessels will love his mixed-media work — an orange-red vase embellished with metal roping. Other artists in the show are gallery owners Carlile and King, Terry Hitt, Kevin Messer, Andy Snow, Terry Welker and Jud Yalkut.

"We want to find and promote art that is appealing to both home owners and corporations," said Carlile. "We're very happy to be here to support Dayton artists."
