DAYTON — If you've ever encountered one of the 20 City Life sculptures downtown on foot, chances are you've stopped to playfully wrap an arm around the figure or strike a similar pose. Why not capture these carefree moments on camera?
WDTN Channel 2 is sponsoring a photo contest for the second consecutive year in conjunction with the City of Dayton, Montgomery County, Downtown Dayton Partnership and Culture Works. Applicants should submit creative photos of individuals interacting with J. Seward Johnson, Jr.'s lifelike sculptures. Props also may be used.
Because so many people crafted intriguing stories for the sculptures last year, an essay contest has been added as a separate contest. Writers wishing to enter should create a story 300 words or fewer about any one sculpture.
The photo contest is divided into Youth/Teen (19 and younger) and Adult (20 and older) categories, while the story contest is divided into Youth (12 and younger), Teen (13-19) and Adult (20 and older) categories.
The sculptures will be on display throughout downtown Dayton until August 15. One winner from each age category will be selected in July and August, and prizes could include gift certificates or discounts from Flying Pizza, Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers, Uno's, Smokin Bar-B-Que and Arby's.
Photos must be taken by a digital camera or traditional film camera. Digital photos can be e-mailed to info@downtowndayton.org, while hard copies should be sent to the Downtown Dayton Partnership at 40 N. Main St., Suite 1360, Dayton, OH 45423. Stories can be e-mailed or mailed.
