Local MTV fans jeer Spears' performance
> What's your opinion of Britney Spears' performance at the MTV Video Awards?
Monday, September 10, 2007
Britney Spears' performance of "Gimme More" to open Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards drew scathing reviews for the former pop superstar's out-of-synch lip-synching, lethargic dance moves and unflattering costume.
"It just didn't seem like she was particularly well-prepared for such a look-at-me moment," said Geoff Mayfield, director of charts for Billboard magazine.
Extras
Laura Buehrle of Kettering was disappointed by Spears' highly touted comeback.
"There was no life to it," said Buehrle, a University of Dayton senior and former Spears fan. "She didn't look excited to be there."
UD senior Lauren Strzepek of Chicago called it pathetic. "Her dancers danced better than she did," Strzepek said.
Spears performed to promote her upcoming album, due Nov. 13. "Gimme More" debuted at No. 55 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart.
"I think that artists have been able to overcome even more embarrassing publicity than this might generate," Mayfield said.
If you missed it, Spears topped the morning news programs and YouTube.com.
"There's a big report for Iraq war out and the big headline was Britney Spears' VMA presentation," said Kerry Bukvic, a UD graduate student from Cleveland.

Britney Spears reviews:
"Wow. The phrase 'awesomely bad' comes to mind." — E! Online
"Spears was stuffed into a spangled bra and hot pants and jiggled like Jell-O as she sleepwalked through the song." — New York Post
"I saw a tentative, confused-looking girl who could barely muster the energy to mouth along with the backing track, let alone work those stiletto boots." — EW.com
"The pop star has a history of dramatic performances at the VMAs — including kissing Madonna and dancing with a live snake — but this year's performance, after a weekend of partying, seemed off if not less entertaining." — People.com

MTV was never the place for class or good taste, still a whole lot of people saw this mess, and somebody is gonna make a buck off of it. That’s the American way, only thing that was missing was her old Pepsi co-star Bob Dole. But then he sells Viagra, and might have had one of those four hour erections and could not attend.

I would like to know where she will go from here. I am guessing either Jenny Craig, or Burger King. Hard to tell, but I am guessing Burger King has been the trend.

Yes, becuause little teenies like strawboss buy her records. I don’t buy her records, because she is a washed up fat hag. I would do her, but that is about it. I mean she doesn’t hurt my eyes to look at her, but there are girls at the mall that look better. Maybe we should pay them for being hot. Hmmm. Probably not. We have to have our heroes don’t we…

She may be washed up, but she’s far from fat and about 200 million dollars richer than anyone berating her on this page.

Yeah way to go Britney. You suck and you are a fat lard, but you should still perform. You are a dumb douche and have no business in this profession. You need to get a job on an assembly line. I think it is safe to say that Britney’s 15 minutes of fame is over. Now it is time for her 15 minutes on a treadmill. Fat Ho.

I think everyone is missing the boat here. Yes, Britney is human, she doesn’t look as good as she used to, just like alot of us. But she has chosen to put herself in a environment and into a job that requires talent and creativity. If you can’t sing or dance, and that is your profession, then it’s time to get out. If she had a real job like the rest of us, she would have been fired by now.
As for a parent and being famous, choose your kids first.

I was hoping she’d pull it off, but she wasn’t ready. I think it’s ridiculous to refer to her as fat, but I also think it was ridiculous of her to wear that outfit. A little more cover and a better fit would have made all the difference for her. She’s not 17 anymore. I would have loved to see her perform with a little class, but I guess she just doesn’t have it in her. I’ll be curious to see where she goes from here.

This IS something being talked about, so DDN is just giving us a place to talk. All of you why-are-we-talking-about-this people DID come to this article! And everything is front page online - the REAL newspaper didn’t make this front page - it’s not in there today at all. And talking about the entertainment industry halts relief to suffering masses? Whatever. All hardcore news all the time would be pretty boring! There’s plenty of that depressing stuff to go around.

This poor girl has been through so much. She is a person people. We all go through tough times and bad times and even times we aren’t proud of. She is trying and I think it is great she is trying for a come back. Her first come back show and this is how people treat her, like she is below us. Why is everyone picking on her body? Over half of the population doesn’t look anywhere near what she does now. I rather see some meat on a girls bones than these skeletons that prance around. Go Britney!

I say boo to MTV for exploiting this girl - clearly this was their goal - to get their ratings up for the fledging VMAs. Nobody watches it anymore, and they are desperate. Anyone in the world could tell you that she wasn’t ready to perform, prior to the show. It was clear that was their goal by putting Silverman up right after her. I feel bad for this girl, clearly a product of poor parenting. I hope that she can get her life back together, for her sake and her kids.

Where to start…she was clearly unrehearsed, on something and/or ate a pound of fudge before her “performance”.
Visually, the phrase “2 lbs of bologna in a 1 lbs bag” comes to mind.
At this point in her life & career why try to play the slut? She should have taken a classy turn. A nice elegant dress and a cool “I will survive” type of song.
Bottom-line, we have found the next Anna Nicole Smith.

Not only has the DDN sunk to new tabloid trash lows (ala E!, Entertainment Tonight and Inside Edition) the rest of the news media has done the same. I’m sick and tired of hearing about the exploits of the rich and decadent while the the people in Sudan suffer dearly and nothing is done about it! As for Britney herself…GET A PARENT’S LIFE AND LOSE THE CAREER!

Dayton Daily News is patheic picking this trash as some sort of newsworthy story. Why doesn’t DDN encourage comments on REAL news that REALLY affects the lives of REAL people? It’s simple — they DO NOT CARE! Shallow b@stards! Corporate scum. Losers. Duds. failures. Scrotums.

DDN deciding again what should be news and what shouldn’t. Picking poor Britney is pathetic, doesn’t make her worth front page. Just glad I guess that Paris didn’t get arrested again and Nicole hasn’t gained 4 pounds or there’d be nothing on the front page at all!

Pearl—
I was merely pointing out the fact they chose it as a lead story.
Great logic btw on the “leave if you don’t like it remark”.
For local news, where do you suggest I go?

Lucy, Yes - believe it or not some people are able to follow more than one news story at a time. A person’s perspective is their own choosing. If you don’t like how the DDN is reporting things, you can exercise your right of choice and leave.

Hey did anyone know that we had a report come out on Iraq today and tomorrow is the anniversary of 9/11??
Perspective, people!
And shame on the DDN for making this a cover story. Although it is the DDN so I shouldn’t expect much more from a craptastic periodical.

Britney’s performance was pretty bad, but she did show that even after 2 kids - you can still have what it takes. The worst performance of that night was from Kanye West. He keeps playing the ‘race card’ every time he dosen’t win an award. Hate to tell you Kanye, but your race has been repaid in full.

She is the mother of two kids. I think she looks good for a mother of two. The Vmas performance looked akward and she kept rolling her eyes but maybe she doesnt realize that if she doesnt straighten up now, she will never be famous for her musical talent just her social disappointments. But i guess to some ppl any publicity is good publicity.

99% of the women in America wished they looked that good. 2 Kids and still hot. Was the act bad? Yep. Always has been. I don’t care if music is even playing. She could lip synch in that outfit @ my house anytime she wants.
