> Tell us your comments about Restaurant Week
Its name is Restaurant Week, and much like the zucchini in your backyard, it just keeps growing.
After a record-shattering winter 2007 Restaurant Week in which more than 6,700 dinners were sold at 41 Dayton-area restaurants, the Miami Valley Restaurant Association announced last week that 48 restaurants have agreed to participate in the summer version, which begins Sunday and runs through next Friday.
Extras
"Restaurant Week has caught on," said Lisa Grigsby, president of the Miami Valley Restaurant Association. "People are looking forward to it, and they're talking about it. They want to be part of the excitement."
During Restaurant Week, patrons can dine on a three-course meal for $20.07 while also helping out a pair of local charities. For each specially priced meal served, the restaurant will donate $1, with the proceeds benefitting Clothes That Work, which provides appropriate clothing for people going on job interviews, and Oak Tree Corner, which helps children and families deal with grief.
Restaurant owners strongly recommend calling to check on availability and hours. At many restaurants, reservations are required. Menus can be viewed online at www.dineoutdayton.org/srw07.html.
This year, DaytonDailyNews.com invites diners to share their experiences during Restaurant Week at DaytonDailyNews.com/dining.
Remember that tax, tip and beverages are not included in the $20.07 price. Also keep in mind that you should be able to take leftover wine home in a sealed bottle, assuming the restaurant is taking advantage of the relatively new state law that allows the practice. It wouldn't hurt to ask in advance if that's your intention.

Raquet Club had same menu as in Jan. Didn;tmake us want to return for an identical, although great meal, when so many other choices.
Had “Kim’s” menu at Carvers, it was GREAT. Only one small detail, why ask what we want for dessert when ordering salad and main course. Food was excellent and nice servings.
Didn’t go to LaBerge (sp) I can get Graeters ice cream at a parlor. Shame on them for not offering a great dessert with their fine meal.
Looking forward to Jan 2008.

Cafe Istanbul was a very nice suprise! I thought it was going to be turkish food from what i remember as a child being heavy and filling. Instead I had a wonderful feta stuffed salmon and my wife had paella that was out of this world. I’m so glad i tried it! If your a gluten free girl like my wife ask for the garbonzo bean cake! Its amazing! I will be back!

Restaurant Week a success in my book!! I visited several restaurants with relatives and friends. The food and presentation was great everywhere I went. The staff, although quite busy, was courteous and attentive. I hope the MVRA continues this venture. The dollar donation to charity is a nice benefit. I also urge Miami Valley residents to support our local restaurants!!!!

I enjoyed my dinner at Paragon Club. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere was calming. I am looking forward to my return at the next Restaurant Week. The only thing I suggest is that the people at Paragon Club, be more attentive to their customers of color.

The Oakwood Club. I treated a girlfriend to dinner there. We did have about a 50 min. wait but we sat at the bar, had a drink and spent time talking. The prime rib she said was quite tender and cooked as requested. I had the pan seared salmon over grilled vegetables. I’ve never been one to eat much fish but the salmon was delicious and I will definitely eat more of it. The chocolate mousse with whipped cream and raspberry sauce was the perfect dessert. The food was great!! A good experience.

The Barnsider. My grandma took me here. We were able to try something new and we both enjoyed our meal. The Beef Wellington was wonderful and the portions were large. They ran our of the listed dessert but the substitute was absolutely delicious!!! We would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Old Hickory listed but not participating. Upon entering I was informed they were not participating in Restaurant Week. The manager did say they would donate a dollar to a charity of my choice. This is the second time I went to Old Hickory only to learn they were not participating. They should not be included in your listing ( they even had a menu listed). Consequently I do not plan on returning to their restaurant ever again!

C’est Tout - we haven’t been there in ages. It may be ages again before we come back but perhaps not. The service was mundane. The scallops was less than warm but the pork was just fine. The salad was the best part of the meal. We had to ask twice for the bread and finally asked the server. The waiter cleared our salad plates and then said our desserts would be out soon. ??? but we had not had the meal yet? Worth the cost? It was worth the experience whether we will try it again is a ????

Thanks to the fabulous job the MVRA has done to promote restaurant week, we (The Chimneys Inn) experienced nearly 400% increase in business on Thursday. Unfortunately, we were not nearly prepared for the volume of guests that showed up. For those guests who experienced the uncceptable waits at The Chimneys, I would like to publicly apologize. I take full resonsibily for the evening and have taken steps to insure that this will not happen again. Matthew Hayden, Executive Chef.

I was excited to see the Chimney’s Inn on the list, as I’ve been wanting to try it. As an independant restaurant serving some of my favorite foods, I had high hopes. But for the first time in my life, I walked out without being served, after waiting an hour and a half and not being served. Something was horribly wrong, obviously, but all we were told was “Your food will be right out”. The place only has 14 or so tables, so what can take so long? I can’t see ever going back. What a shame.

El Meson had very good meal; the Gazpacho and salad were very fresh and full and the Chilean Seafood Stew was wonderful. It came with a side dish of squash in a tomato and herb sauce that was actually my favorite of the entire meal. (but then, I am a vege nut)
However the service was very slow. Sitting on the patio under an umbrella, on a lovely evening; had we partaken of margaritas or mojoitas, waiting for the main course for an hour wouldn’t have felt bad. But we didn’t, and it did.

Jay’s got it right. The appetizers — both the wild mushroom strudel with boursin cheese and the intensely flavored gazpacho — were first rate. I’d give the nod to the salmon with sun-dried cranberries and almonds over the kebab of beef, swordfish and shrimp served over rice and ringed with a smoky, barbecue-style sauce. With reliable dessert choices of key lime pie or chocolate mousse, this is a three-course meal well worth $20.07.
