Preston is not sure if it is a speaking role, but is excited for the opportunity to use his acting skills.

He has taken acting classes at Sinclair Community College and appeared in a few locally produced films and commercials.

"I don't know what they will have me do," said Preston, the organizer of Dayton's annual The Hunks and Ladders Firefighter Combat Challenge for charity. "It will be fun."

The Hunks and Ladders calendar’s 30th anniversary will be celebrated at this year’s combat challenge set to kick off at 2 p.m. at July 22 at The Greene, 4450 Buckeye Lane in Beavercreek.

Set at least partly in the 1970s, The Old Man and the Gun tells the story of an elderly bank robber now living in a retirement community and “looks to spice things up with another heist,” according to the Internet Movie Database.

Preston wore a tight green T-shirt, camel hair sports jacket and bell bottom-like jeans to the recent auction at Xavier University in Cincinnati.

He agreed to shaving his beard and growing mutton chop side burns for his part in the movie, set to begin filming next month.

Preston said acting gives adults a chance to be kids and pretend.

“I am looking forward to it. It sounds like a good movie,” the former Farmersville firefighter said.
