The holiday season will usher in changes and will bring special events and hours for several Dayton-area restaurants.
One is undergoing a transformation as well as a name change: starting tonight, Nov. 28, Cafe Boulevard, 329 E. Fifth St. in Dayton’s Oregon Historic District, will become Boulevard Haus, according to the restaurant’s owner, Eva Brcic-Christian. Boulevard Haus is designed to be a “modern, casual German restaurant and bar,” and diners who come dressed in a traditional German outfit to tonight’s grand opening will get 50 percent off their dinner, Brcic-Christian said in an e-mail news release.
Cafe Boulevard filed for Chapter 11 reorganization bankruptcy earlier this year and has continued to operate while restructuring its debts. Brcic-Christian, who grew up in Germany, said last month there is no restaurant in Dayton focusing primarily on German cuisine, and said she wanted to “bring something to Dayton that Dayton doesn’t already have.” For more information or to make reservations for the grand opening, call (937) 824-2722.
L’Auberge, 4120 Far Hills Ave. in Kettering, has several holiday events planned, including a Holiday Cocktail Party and Bazaar from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 6 (reservations are required), Sunday brunch buffets on both Dec. 13 and Dec. 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. that includes a visit from Santa Claus ($29.95 adults, $9.95 for children 10 and under, reservations required), and a Christmas Eve dinner Dec. 24. For more information, call (937) 299-5536.
A handful of Dayton-area restaurants that usually serve only dinner will open for lunch in December, including:
• Carvers Steaks and Chops, 1535 Miamisburg-Centerville Road in Washington Twp., which will launch weekday lunch service Dec. 1 and continue through Dec. 31; for more information, call (937) 433-7099.
• Savona Restaurant, 79 S. Main St. in Centerville, will be open Fridays for lunch starting Dec. 4 and extending through Jan. 8, according to chef-owner Keith Taylor. For more information, call (937) 610-9835.
• Jay’s Restaurant, 225 E. Sixth St. in Dayton’s Oregon Historic District, starts weekday lunch service Dec. 1 and will continue through Dec. 23. For more information, call (937) 222-2892.
And those looking for a holiday wine experience with a small group of friends have a new option: Grapes — a Wine Lounge has opened inside the Centerville Pub at 68 W. Franklin St. in Centerville, although with an occupancy limit of eight people. The lounge managers and the pub’s owner are taking steps they hope will lead to a higher occupancy capacity, but in the meantime, the wine lounge is available by reservation only, according to Gayle Burtt and Mark Brown, co-managers of the wine lounge. For more information, call (937) 238-5706.
