Opening day today for downtown Dayton restaurant that succeeds Olive

Arepas & Co. Colombian Comfort Food opened today, Jan. 18, in the former Olive Urban Dive space at 416 E. Third St. in downtown Dayton. The 800-square-foot former Wympee diner dates to 1938.

“We are very excited to be part of downtown Dayton, and our new neighbors have been nothing but welcoming,” said Lisa Perdomo, co-founder of Arepas & Co. with her husband, Jhembert (J.R.) Perdomo. “We had people stop by this week wanting to order, checking the place out as we were getting the restaurant ready, and also received several calls asking if we were open.”

Arepas & Co opened its first location in the Second Street Market in downtown Dayton in 2012, and its second location in March 2014 at 1122 E. Dorothy Lane in Kettering. Both remain open.

Hours for the new downtown restaurant are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, “however, we may stay open later if needed,” Lisa Perdomo said. “As we get closer to the end of winter we will review our foot traffic and set permanent hours.”
